Music Video Program
July 9 – July 14, 2018
2018 Music Video Program enrollment is now open!
NEW for 2018:
Crews will be formed by RCGLA staff before camp starts, and campers will find out who is in their crew on Day 1 of camp.
“Express Yourself” camper essays are now integrated into the application.
Application questions that should be answered by campers in their own words are listed under the “Prepare Your Answers” section below.
In the Music Video Program (MVP) campers direct, shoot, and edit a music video! Campers work in crews alongside inspiring female filmmakers to bring their ideas to the big screen! No prior filmmaking experience required!
In one week, campers will form crews, direct a music video for a live-in-person band, learn how to operate professional cameras, edit with cutting-edge software, and finally screen their finished videos in front of a live audience! Each day kicks off with punk-rock yogaerobics to get our bodies moving, an inspired rendition of the camp theme song, “We Rock LA”, and a hilarious yet educational skit by the Famous Rock Camp Skit Time Players.
Each crew will be cheered on by a filmmaking coach, and each crew will have their very own camera mentor and editing mentor, making sure that each camper has plenty of one-on-one time with the gear, and ensuring that there’s always someone close by to answer questions and teach tips and tricks! Every MVP camper will have an opportunity to direct, shoot, and edit.
Days will be spent exploring the cameras and editing software, watching and discussing current music videos, discussing how to use music videos to make social change, meeting real working professionals in the film industry and learning about careers available, brainstorming, and creating music video magic! Workshops at camp may include designing and screen-printing camper crew t-shirts, a “big gear” afternoon, image and identity, and more! At lunch, campers will get to rock out to live music as a guest artist takes the outdoor stage to perform, talk about their work, and take questions from campers. In the afternoon, campers have plenty of time to work on their music videos.
Any self-identified girl between the ages of 12-17 is encouraged to apply. All equipment provided! Bring your awesome!

Tuition is $450 per camper for the week of camp. Limited financial aid is available to those in need and who live in the Los Angeles area. We offer tuition on a sliding scale so that girls from all financial backgrounds have the opportunity to attend camp. Tuition is not considered a donation.
Financial aid is available on a need basis to girls who live in the Los Angeles area.
For those requesting financial aid, tuition is based on a sliding scale between $25 – $450. Financial aid typically goes to families that are low-income, have many dependents, or are facing other financial hardships. We do not grant financial aid because of a camper being enrolled in multiple summer camps, private school tuition or other situations involving elective activities.
We realize that families have different abilities to pay. It’s part of our mission to make summer camp accessible regardless of financial situation. Applying for financial aid will neither increase nor decrease the chances of acceptance.
The financial aid application is within the main application. The link to the main application is at the bottom of this page.
In the application you will be asked the following questions:
- How much can you pay towards your child’s tuition?
- What is your household annual income?
- How many dependents are in your family?
- Are you a single income family?
- Does the child receive child support?
- Does the child receive free of reduced-priced meals?
Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until all spots are filled.
Do not send tuition until you receive an acceptance email from us with payment instructions.
Enrollment is only confirmed after tuition has been paid. If you do not pay tuition by the due date in your acceptance email, your spot may be released to someone else.
Camp starts promptly at 10am, Monday – Friday. Campers should arrive at camp between 9:30am – 9:45am each day, except for Monday when they need to arrive between 9am – 9:30am. Camp ends at 5pm each day and that’s when they should be picked up.
Anyone requiring an early drop-off or late pick-up MUST contact us in advance so we know what to expect and can plan accordingly. Extended hours child supervision is free. Early drop-off begins at 8:30am. Late pickup is available until 6pm sharp. Please contact us and let us know what your needs are. Any campers arriving early or staying late should bring a book to read or other activity.
All campers must bring their own lunch and a snack each day. We do not provide lunch for campers. We will provide a small snack each afternoon. Re-usable water bottles are recommended to help stay hydrated throughout the day.
We do not provide transportation. However, we would like to help facilitate carpooling and use of public transportation if we can. In the application you can let us know if you’re interested in carpooling and we will do our best to connect you with others in your area. There are metro bus, rail and DASH lines near Immaculate Conception School. If the camper will be using public transportation and you would like our assistance, please call us to discuss options.
Our volunteer mentors are thoughtfully selected and screened through an online application, in-person or phone interview, and LiveScan fingerprinting. They are an incredible bunch and we hope you get to know some of them this summer.
We understand that things come up and you may need to cancel. Please email or call us as soon you know you need to cancel.
If you cancel before June 25th, you receive a 50% refund.
If you cancel on or after June 25th, tuition is non-refundable.

Camper input is a very important part of the application. Campers should prepare their answers in advance. Here are the questions we need to hear the camper’s voice on:
Campers please respond in your own words. You must answer all questions.
- Tell about a music video that you totally love. What makes you the most excited about it?
- If you could make a music video for any artist, who would it be and what would it look like?
- Name a problem that you see in your community or your world. How would you address this issue in a music video?
Follow these steps to successfully complete your application:
Make sure you have the camper’s prepared Express Yourself answers on hand.

Do not send in any tuition until you have received confirmation of acceptance.
