Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls Los Angeles! Summer camp is a one-week day camp. Our campers are girls ages 8-17 and camp will take place at Immaculate Conception School in downtown L.A. (830 Green Ave., Los Angeles 90017).
We are looking for volunteers who put the best interests of youth and their physical and emotional safety above all else, who understand and believe in our mission and who will show up every day, on time and ready to work. A variety of different volunteer positions are available. Some require musical or filmmaking knowledge, and many do not.
Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls Los Angeles is strongly rooted in valuing female leadership and mentorship. We believe in giving girls as many chances as possible to see all kinds of self-identified women and girls in positions of leadership. For this reason, we prefer to place female-identified mentors in teaching, coaching, and managing positions, but there are several other positions open to all gender identities.
In addition to filling out the online application, all new applicants are required to attend a group interview in person. There are three dates to choose from: Tuesday, April 12, 2016; Thursday, April 14, 2016; or Saturday, April 16, 2016. Due to the large number of applicants, we cannot schedule any other interviews.
Volunteers that are accepted are required to complete a background check prior to the start of camp.
Please note that preference is given to volunteers in the greater Los Angeles area. If you are applying from outside of the Los Angeles area, please consider applying at a girls rock camp closer to you. Visit the Girls Rock Camp Alliance website to find a camp near you, and help us grow the girls rock camp community worldwide!
Orientation & Training
There is a mandatory volunteer orientation and training session on the Sunday before the week of camp starts at Immaculate Conception School. Please consider this to be the first day of your volunteer shift. We will talk about what to expect from the week, how to have a fun and safe camp session, teaching strategies, troubleshooting, etc. This is also a time when volunteers get to know each other, start collaborating, and do last minute camp set up.
Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls Los Angeles does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national and/or ethnic origin, age, citizenship, marital status, sexual orientation, mental or physical ability, or gender identity/expression in the administration of any of its educational programs, admissions policies, financial aid, and other Camp-related policies and programs, as well as volunteer and employment-related policies and activities.
Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls Los Angeles is strongly rooted in valuing female leadership and mentorship. We believe in giving girls as many chances as possible to see all kinds of self-identified women and girls in positions of leadership, including teaching positions. We welcome support from self-identified males, trans, gender-nonconforming and all gender identities and expressions. Several of our volunteer positions are suitable for everyone. We expect all of our volunteers to respect the importance of female leadership and mentorship.
Some positions require musical experience but many do not, and some require a full-time commitment while others may be part-time. All volunteers must be available for orientation and training. Counselors and band coaches are also required to attend the Showcase. (But seriously, who would want to miss the showcase??)
Full-time positions require you to be at camp Monday through Friday from 10am to approximately 5:30pm. You are encouraged to arrive between 9:30-10am if possible. Campers go home at 5pm but volunteers must stay for a brief meeting at the end of each day so we can go over any issues or questions.
